ACCESSIBILITY
Florida State College at Jacksonville recognizes the importance of assisting and encouraging all students to reach their full potential. The Rehabilitation Act defines a disability as an individual who has a physical, mental, or learning disability, which substantially limits one or more major life activity (i.e., seeing, hearing, speaking, walking, sitting, standing, breathing, reading, writing, or performing mathematical calculations, and caring for oneself); or who has a record of such impairment; or who is regarded as having such impairment. Both the impairment and the limitation of a major life activity must be established to be eligible under the ADA.

Your Course Participation and Assessments
Assigned Work
To see all the assignments due in this course, refer to the Calendar of Activities below. As you will see in the Calendar of Activities, suggested due dates are given for each module. This is a self-paced class. Therefore, if you work at a faster or slower pace than suggested, you will not be penalized. The only firm due dates are for participation discussions, as described below, August 22nd for all module quizzes and the paper, and August 24th for the final exam.
Module Quizzes
Every week, you are assigned one module to complete. Each module is comprised of an overview, readings, powerpoints (to assist those who are more visual in learning), key terms, and review questions. After reviewing the material, you should be able to successfully complete the module quiz. Each quiz is comprised of 30 multiple-choice items and 1 filler item (an item that is worth 0.1 points so that the total can be a perfect 100). You have 3 attempts for each quiz and a 60 minute time limit. Each quiz is worth 100 points or 10% of your final grade. Overall, there are 7 module quizzes, for a total of 700 points or 70% of your final grade coming from module quizzes.
Participation
In each module, a participation discussion board is available. These discussion boards are designed to measure participation and to offer a place for students to interact and gain support while completing the course. To get full points on the participation discussion boards, you must simply check in each week with any question or response that interests you. There are 7 discussion boards, one for each module and week in the course. Discussions will be graded as completed or missing, with all 7 discussions being worth 100 points or 10% of your final grade. Missing a discussion will result in a loss of 1/7 of your participation grade.
Exams
In this course, you will have one comprehensive final exam. The final exam is worth 100 points, or 10% of your final grade. The exam is comprised of 50 multiple choice items and will be proctored online. You will have one attempt and a 90 minute time limit.
Paper
In this course, you will complete paper worth 100 points, or 10% of your final grade. As a part of the paper grade, students will complete an Information Literacy assessment, worth 20 points. Details about the paper and assessment will be provided in Canvas in a module labeled "Paper."

FN GRADE - FAILURE FOR NON-ATTENDANCE
A Failure for Non-Attendance (FN) grade indicates that a student has failed a course due to non-attendance. It is calculated as an 'F' in the student's grade point average. For students receiving financial aid, failure for non-attendance may require the student to refund to the College all or part of his or her aid.
I GRADE - INCOMPLETE
Incomplete (I) grades may be awarded based on the criteria in the College catalog. See the College's page on Grading policiesLinks to an external site. (http://fscj.edu/grading) for more information.
REPEATING THE COURSE
You may repeat a course in an attempt to improve a grade previously earned. However, you are limited in your attempts to courses where a “D,” “F,” or “FN” grade was earned. You have only three total attempts in any course, including the original grade, repeat grades, and withdrawals. Upon the third attempt in a course, you must be given an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F”.
When you repeat a course at Florida State College, only the last grade earned is calculated in your cumulative grade point average (GPA). If you have an excessive number of “W” or “FN” grades and repeat courses to improve your GPA, you may jeopardize your admission to programs in the Florida State University System (SUS) or other institutions.
